Atlético Madrid's Road to the 2027 Super Cup: Copa del Rey Finalists

Atlético Madrid are in the 2027 Spanish Super Cup as Copa del Rey runners-up — the fourth and last of the qualifying places. The cup final was their way in: this year all four places went to four different clubs, so none had to be passed down the table.

That final, on 18 April 2026 at La Cartuja, was agonisingly close. Atlético twice found themselves level with Real Sociedad — Lookman and Álvarez on the scoresheet — and took the tie to penalties at 2–2, only to lose the shoot-out 4–3. In La Liga they finished fourth, on 69 points, so the cup run, not the league, is what carried them to Istanbul.
